Three players scored in double figures as the Langston University Lions escaped with a 65-61 victory over Wiley College on day one of the AAUL HBUC Invitational at the H-E-B Center.
Tied at 61-61, Langston's D'Monte Brown broke through for a quick layup off an assist by Toru Dean to put Langston up 63-61 with 17 seconds remaining. On the ensuing offensive possession, the Wildcat's Demarius Hunter came up short on a three-pointer which ended up in the hands of A.J. Rainey.
Following the intention foul by Wiley College, Rainey nailed back-to-back free throws to put Langston up for good at 65-61. The victory pushes Langston to 5-0 on the season which is their best start to the season since the 2018-19 season.
Brown led Langston in scoring with 17 points on six-of-12 shooting and seven rebounds. Tristan Harper chipped in 14 and Cortez Mosley tallied 11 points on the night.
