Oklahoma City University ripped Mid-America Christian 92-68 on Saturday afternoon at The Pit at Redlands.
Brandon Jackson powered Oklahoma City with 25 points. The Stars improved to 9-8, 7-4 in Sooner Athletic Conference men’s basketball.
The Stars halted a six-game losing string to Mid-America Christian. OCU notched its first victory over Mid-America Christian since a 97-81 win Jan. 29, 2019 at Abe Lemons Arena.
Oklahoma City erased a 34-30 deficit as Jackson buried four consecutive 3-pointers. Jackson drained a trey from the right wing after Kori Guest pitched the ball to him to put the Stars on top 42-34 with 2:07 left in the first half.
OCU reeled off an 11-0 onslaught stretching from the end of the first half to the start of the second period. Avery Jackson tallied seven points during that stretch, while Jack McWilliams had two buckets. Jackson sank a pair of free throws to give the Stars a 55-40 cushion with 17:03 to go.
Avery Jackson nailed a trey to cap a 7-0 Stars blitz that increased their lead to the largest of the game 83-53 with 4:28 left.
The Stars pulled away from an 8-8 tie using an 8-0 run. Avery Jackson downed a trey, then McWilliams threw down a dunk. Avery Jackson hit a 3 for a 16-8 advantage with 15:18 remaining in the first period.
Brandon Jackson, a junior human performance major from Westmont, Calif., accumulated eight rebounds, three steals and a season-high five 3-pointers for Oklahoma City. Jackson nailed 5 of his 7 3-point tries.
OCU’s Avery Jackson, a freshman political science major from Frisco, Texas, produced 22 points, 10 rebounds and two steals. Jackson hit all seven of his free-throw attempts. McWilliams, a freshman computer science major from Sydney, matched his season high with 13 points to go with six rebounds and two blocked shots.
Dravon Clayborn, a senior business administration major from Evanston, Ill., put together his second double-double of the season with 12 points, 10 assists and two steals. Clayborn equaled his career high for assists. Guest contributed 10 points.
