Oklahoma City University Kitchingham of Stars nabs title in Lindenwood Open

Jack Kitchingham from Oklahoma City University earned the Lindenwood Open 197-pound men’s wrestling title in the freshmen-sophomore division Saturday at Hyland Arena. 

Hayden Brown took third place at 157 pounds in the freshmen-sophomore division for the Stars. 

Kitchingham racked up four pins on the way to his first career tournament crown. Kitchingham, a sophomore from Mustang, Okla., grabbed the second most falls in the tournament. Kitchingham, ranked 21st among NAIA 197-pounders, improved to 8-0 with five falls this season. 

In the 197-pound final, Kitchingham pinned Matthew Weinert of Arkansas-Little Rock in 2:01. Kitchingham finished off two opponents in less than a minute each. Kitchingham started his day with a fall against Josh Franklin from Rochester Tech (Minn.) in 43 seconds, then reached the final with a pin vs. Kayden Garrett of Quincy (Ill.) in 57 seconds. He finished runner-up at 285 pounds in the Lindenwood Open last year. 

Brown posted a 9-0 major-decision victory over Luke Ebers from Maryville (Mo.) in the 157-pound third-place bout. Brown, a freshman from Tuttle, Okla., turned in a 4-1 mark on the day to move to 7-1 in 2022-23. To advance to the championship match, Brown finished off his match with Tony Pacetti of Joliet (Ill.) by fall in 34 seconds.  

Oklahoma City faces Central Christian (Kan.) in a dual 7:30 p.m. Dec. 5 at Abe Lemons Arena.
