The Langston University men’s basketball season ended on Tuesday afternoon as the Lions fell short 74-60 to the Georgetown (Ky.) Tigers in the NAIA Men’s Basketball National Tournament Round of 16 at the Municipal Auditorium.

The Lions started strong in the opening half, building a 22-12 advantage with 5:23 remaining until halftime. The Tigers managed to counter the Langston attack, closing out the first half on a 15-0 run to lead 27-22.

Georgetown (Ky.) never trailed the rest of the way as the Lions end their season at 31-3 overall.

Tristan Harper led Langston in scoring with 22 points, Toru Dean added 14 and AJ Rainey finished with 11.

Despite the national tournament exit, the Lions had a banner year with first-year head coach Chris Wright. Under Wright’s tutelage the Lions improved 31-3 overall after finishing 1-37 the last two seasons.

The accolades didn’t stop there as Langston picked up the Sooner Athletic Conference regular season and conference tournament titles for the first time in program history, four All-SAC selections (Harper, Cortez Mosley, Rainey, and Dean). Additionally, Harper was named the SAC Player of the Year, SAC Newcomer of the Year along with Mosley who was named the SAC Defensive Player of the Year.

Rounding out the individual awards was head coach Chris Wright who took home the John Hudson Coach of the Year award for the SAC.
